Shamshad’s late father was the ambulance driver for the Mission Hospital in Sahiwal, and therefore Shamshad was reared on the Hospital compound in employee housing. He is one of four boys and one sister. He was educated the first years of his life in the Mission School until it was nationalized in 1972.
Shamshad attended medical school after college and worked for a few years as a doctor in Pakistan, 12 years in Amman, Jordan, and 8 years in a hospital in Dubai, UAE. His training would have been the equivalent of a Physician’s Assistant here in the States.
While in Dubai, he attended Bible College in the evenings, and completed many courses.
After returning to Pakistan in the 1990’s, he became involved in translating Christian books into the Urdu language for the Evangelical Lutheran Church. He translated and oversaw the publication of some 25 books.
He was ordained by the ARP Synod of Pakistan in 2004, and has served as the first Business Manager for the Synod for the past four years. During that time he has purchased land for new churches, overseen the planting of five new ARP Churches, negotiated with the government of Pakistan for funding the renovation of 17 ARP Churches, five of which have been recently completed. He also is assisting with the negotiations with the de-nationalization of ARP Mission schools that were taken from the Mission 37 years before.
